ELEMENTAL MAPPING OF GEOLOGICAL SAMPLES BY MEANS OF LASERABLATION INDUCTIVELY COUPLED PLASMA MASS SPECTROMETRY
2014
Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry
(LA-ICP-MS) offers possibilities of elemental mapping different
types of materials which includes metallic, biological,
geological samples. Its advantage consists in sufficient
lateral resolution (in order of tens um) and low detection
limits (in range of ones mg/kg). In presented work, the
elemental mapping granitic sample originated from Bohemian
massif is presented. New analytical software – Laser Ablation
Tool was used for data treatment and its utilization for
elemental map creation is described. For quantification
purposes two quantification methods were utilized - total sum
of signals of isotopes and external calibration with internal
standard normalization. We discuss their advantages and
drawbacks for quantification purposes of heterogeneous samples.
