The embodiment of the invention provides a tag stack compression method and device. The method comprises the steps that network equipment acquires a first tag stack corresponding to a forwarding path, and the first tag stack includes a node tag corresponding to each node on the forwarding path; the network equipment selects the first node tag from the first tag stack, and at least two layers of tags can be packaged on a message when the node corresponding to the first node tag forwards the message; at least two adjacent tags behind the first node tag in the first tag stack are replaced by one first compression tag by the network equipment so that a second tag stack is generated; and the network equipment guides the source nodes on the forwarding path to perform message processing according to the second tag stack. Therefore, length of the tag stack compressed in the message can be shortened when the forwarding node forwards the message so that total length of the message can be further reduced, and transmission of the message in the network can be facilitated. Correspondingly, the embodiment of the invention also provides a tag stack decompression method and device.
