Characteristics of. gamma. rays accompanying the production of multiply charged fragments of a carbon nucleus at momentum 4. 2 GeV/c per nucleon
1983
We present experimental material obtained by processing photographs of the 2-meter propane bubble chamber bombarded by carbon nuclei with momentum 4.2 GeV/c per nucleon. It is established that the cross sections for interaction of secondary multiply charged fragments with charges Z/sub f/> or =3 at a distance greater than 10 cm from the primary star are systematically higher than the expected cross sections for interaction of the corresponding nuclei in the ground state. Fragments with charges Z/sub f/ = 5 and 6 have interaction cross sections 10% higher than the expected value. The experimental data on the characteristics of the ..gamma.. rays accompanying the production of fragments with charges Z/sub f/ = 5 and 6 are consistent with the statement that, in addition to ..gamma.. rays from decay of ..pi../sup 0/ mesons, low-energy ..gamma.. rays with an isotropic angular distribution in the rest system of the fragment are present. The contribution of ..gamma.. rays from hadronic bremsstrahlung is observed.
