Department of Mathematics and Computing, Public University of Navarra (UPNA), Campus of Ar-rosadia, 31006 Pamplona, Spain Successful educational systems need to innovate and improve their services. Creating a new system from scratch is risky, being more feasible to add new features to a pre-existing one. We have decided to im-prove our LMSs adding a module to determine the knowledge level of newcomer students. As this module needs a calibrated item bank, we have chosen to generate the calibration by the information provided by experts in field test evaluations among different alternatives. It is known that Quality standards offer sev-eral techniques to improve processes. Concretely, this paper is focused on how the PDCA quality tech-nique is applied in the knowledge acquisition process and the benefits obtained from its application.
