The invention relates to the production field of chemical products, in particular to a preparation method of dialkylbenzene. The preparation method of the dialkylbenzene comprises the following steps: alkylbenzene is mixed with alpha-olefin by the mol ratio of (1-4): 1, wherein the side chain group of the alkylbenzene and the alpha-olefin have different carbon numbers; amphoteric metal chloride is used as catalyst; the alkylbenzene and the alpha-olefin are continuously reacted for 15-60 min at the reaction temperature of 20-80 DEG C after being mixed; a product obtained by finishing the steps is added in solid strong base for neutralizing the catalyst and stirring 5-30 min to obtain neutralized solution, and is distilled and filtered to obtain the dialkylbenzene. According to the preparation method of the dialkylbenzene provided by the invention, the product is the asymmetric dialkylbenzene; the method fills the blank that the technical field has no preparation method for preparing asymmetric dialkylbenzene products all the time; the prepared asymmetric dialkylbenzene products can fully meet the market requirements.
