Concurrent outbreak of pasteurellosis and aflatoxicosis in Kuttanad ducks

One hundred and forty eight ducks of age group of 12–14 months out of a total population of two hundred and fifty ducks died of concurrent outbreak of pasteurellosis and aflatoxicosis in an organized farm. Tissue samples were collected for histopathology and bacterial isolation. Hepatic tumours were observed in six ducks. Heart blood smear and impression smears from various visceral organs were taken and bipolar stained Pasteurella organisms were detected by Leishman staining. Feed samples were collected for aflatoxin estimation and found to be 500 ppb. Pasteurella multocida organism was isolated from representative tissue samples collected. Characteristic pathological alterations corresponding to aflatoxicosis and pasteurellosis were found in different visceral organs.
