CARACTERIZAÇÃO MORFOMÉTRICA DE UMA POPULAÇÃO NATURAL DE MACAÚBA NO NORTE DE MINAS GERAIS

A producao de energia e o desafio de reduzir a poluicao ambiental apresentam a macauba como uma alternativa para producao de biocombustivel.  O estudo objetivou avaliar as caracteristicas morfometricas de macaubas nativas da regiao norte de Minas Gerais. Para caracterizacao morfometrica, escolheu-se 20 palmeiras, avaliando: altura da planta, circunferencia do estipe, numero de folhas vivas e o numero de cachos por planta. Para caracterizacao dos frutos, foram avaliadas 5 plantas, das quais retirou-se um cacho, em seguida, avaliou-se 10 frutos da parte proximal, mediana e distal, determinando o peso e a medida destes. A populacao de macauba avaliada apresenta grande variabilidade, provavelmente em funcao da idade das plantas. Em relacao aos caracteres do cacho e dos frutos, houve pouca variabilidade. A identificacao morfometrica pode auxiliar na domesticacao da especie e escolha dos genotipos potenciais para os programas de melhoramento genetico. Palavras-chave : Acrocomia aculeata (Jacq.) MORPHOMETRIC CHARACTERIZATION OF MACAUBA PALM TREE NATURAL POPULATION IN NORTHERN MINAS GERAIS, BRAZIL ABSTRACT : Energy production and the challenge of reducing environmental pollution present the macauba palm as an alternative for biofuel production. This study aimed to evaluate the morphometric characteristics of macauba palm in the northern region of Minas Gerais state in Brazil. For morphometric characterization, we chose 20 palm trees and measured the plant height, stem circumference, number of green leaves, and the number of raceme per plant. To do the fruit characterization, 5 plants were chosen and one cluster was removed from each, then, 10 fruits were weighted and measured from the proximal, middle, and distal portion. The population evaluated showed great variability, probably due to the age of the plants. Regarding the cluster and fruit, there was a low variability. Morphometric identification can assist in domestication of the species and choice of potential genotypes for breeding programs. KEYWORDS : Acrocomia aculeata (Jacq.)
