Radiation-Induced Stenosis

2020
Radiation induced cerebrovascular stenosis can occur after radiation therapy. Though it can cause transient ischemic attacks or stroke, symptomatic cases represent a small fraction of those detected radiographically. While medical management represents the first line of therapy, disease progression is common and more rapid than conventional atherosclerosis, often times necessitating either endovascular intervention or open surgical treatments. Close follow-up must be maintained, as recurrent stenosis can occur secondary to ongoing vascular endothelial dysfunction.
