The invention discloses a hydraulic oil regulating device in a hydrodynamic retarder, which comprises a working cavity (1), an oil storage cavity (2), a separation layer (3) and a shuttle valve (4). One oil port (5) of the shuttle valve is communicated with the working cavity (1), and another oil port (6) of the shuttle valve is communicated with the oil storage cavity (2). The oil port (6), which is provided with a spring, of the shuttle valve (4) is communicated with the oil storage cavity (2); and a step-shaped through hole is formed in the separation layer (3) to be matched with the shuttle valve (4). According to the invention, on the premise of ensuring that the hydrodynamic retarder normally works, hydraulic oil in the working cavity (1) is effectively recovered, so that oil and gas balance in the working cavity (1) and the oil storage cavity (2) is ensured when the hydrodynamic retarder stops working.
