Box–Meyer Method for Dispersion Effects

2008
One aspect of product quality is variability in finished product. Taguchi showed the world that variability is a consequence of product design and not just manufacturing performance. He also showed us that variability can be studied in engineering optimization experiments. Product variables that affect variability are said to have dispersion effects (see Dispersion Effects). Using the Box-Meyer method, dispersion effects can be estimated simply from the same unreplicated two-level designs used to study effects on the mean performance. Keywords: dispersion effect; fractional design; unreplicated design; variance reduction; effect sparsity
