Introduction to Cybernetics Stream

1993
According to the subtitle of Wiener’s seminal book, Cybernetics; the term refers to “control and communication in the animal and the machine.” Although, nearly half a century later, the word is not so widely used in these disciplines, the importance of the discipline of cybernetics for computing scientists and biologists cannot be questioned. As almost all the papers in the present stream illustrate, however, the range of systems to which control and communication theory can be applied are not limited to organisms and machines, and the focus here is on human organizations.
