Effective PCR Systems for Rapid Identification of Human Papillomaviruses (HPVS)

2003
ABSTRACTThe main approaches for rapid and precise identification of human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are molecular virology techniques. We have adapted effective polymerase chain reaction (PCR) systems that successfully identify numerous clinically significant HPV types: 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 39, 40, 42, 45, 51–59, 66, 68. Standard (uniplex) and multiplex variants of PCR were applied in our laboratory to identify HPVs by direct amplification of specific viral sequences in cervical scrapes. Introduction of the molecular virology techniques as PCR in the routine activity of virology labs increases the opportunity for objective estimate of the individual carcinogenic risk and promotes the quality of treatment approaches.
