Modeling conversion of ammonium diuranate (ADU) into uranium dioxide (UO2) powder

Abstract In the paper, Brandon mathematical model that describes the relationship between the essential fabrication parameters [reduction temperature (T R ), calcination temperature (T C ), calcination time (t C ) and reduction time (t R )] and specific surface area of ammonium diuranate (ADU)-derived UO 2 powder products was established. The proposed models can be used to predict and control the specific surface area of UO 2 powders prepared through ADU route. Suitable temperatures for conversion of ADU and ammonium uranyl carbonate (AUC) was examined with the proposed model through assessment of the sinterability of UO 2 powders.
