Optoelectronic components for cellular communications

1993
Summary form only given. Considerable effort has gone into the development of new optoelectronic devices which allow lightwave transmission systems to support data and video in mixed signal formats. Work in our group has focussed on a variety of technical problems, such as application specific integrated circuits, lasers, and a dual stage optical amplifier for use in these systems. Our most recent work has lead to a variety of robust circuit and device designs which allow combined analog, digital, and spread spectrum data formats to be employed. We will describe work in progress which addresses mixed analog and digital signal transmission. Our current results demonstrate multi-channel video and data transmission in an amplified fiber span with efficient conversion of the microwave channels into the air interface. >
