Threats and Attack Strategies Used in Past Events: A Review

2021
The increasing number of passengers and travellers along with the EU’s objective of integrated border management calls for a paradigm shift in the way security is managed in border crossing points in air, land and sea. Current horizontal controls imposed on the vast majority of law-abiding citizens are not sustainable in the long term. Border Guard Authorities and Operations need to focus security controls and relevant resources in an efficient and intelligent manner based on the – calculated on real time – level of risk. Latest research on risk-based security and behaviour analysis brings together disruptive technologies and provides innovative tools for decision-makers, site operators and field officers. The chapter provides a brief insight to TRESSPASS front-end technologies and the corresponding sources of information enabling collection of input across all tiers of access control: neighbouring and third countries, border control itself and movement within the Schengen Area. Following this, the modelling methodology and supporting data fusion algorithm is presented in detail.
