Endometrial Histology: Findings from the Postmenopausal Estrogen/Progestin Interventions (PEPI) Trial

1997
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) continues to be a significant issue for menopausal aged women. Although compelling observational data exists supporting protective effects of replacement hormones vis-a-vis heart disease risk, clinical trial-based data is limited. Understanding the risks and benefits of replacement therapy options is often hampered because everyone has an opinion about the effects of hormone replacement therapy, but “hard data” documenting these effects are limited. The Postmenopausal Estrogen/Progestin Interventions (PEPI) trial provides one reliable source to evaluate some of the effects of hormone replacement therapies on not only heart disease risk factors, but also other parameters, like endometrial histology.
