Malaria Diagnostic Platform: Lateral Flow Assays

2016
LFAs Lateral flow assays, sandwich assays capturing (in this case) antigen in a sample obtained from a host and used for diagnosis. RDTs Rapid diagnostic tests, lateral flow assays adapted for field use in malaria diagnosis. RDTs have the capability to detect and differentiate malaria species. Results become available in up to 20 min. HRP2 Histidine-rich protein 2, a secreted antigen specific to Plasmodium falciparum that is detected in many RDTs. pLDH Plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase, an antigen secreted by, or present in, all species of plasmodia, but structure varies between species. Aldolase An antigen that, like pLDH, is present in all Plasmodium species.
