Etnofarmacología, riqueza terapéutica de México para el desarrollo social sostenible

2020
Ethnopharmacology, is an interdisciplinary field that embraces cultural anthropology, biology and medicine, Ethnopharmacology studies include field observation, use and remedy preparation, description, botanical definition and phytochemical studies to isolate the compounds present in plants, as well as pharmacological studies. In this study, we performed a documentary analysis around the concept of Ethnopharmacology in Mexico in the MEDLINE database from 1960, as well as documents on indigenous communities of Mexico and the characteristics of health in our country. The results show that Etnopharmacology has a long and fruitful history in Mexico, and a surprising increase in the study of Ethnopharmacology. When we did an analysis of some of these publications, it showed that most are interdisciplinary studies involving several universities and working groups. The most analyzed works are field-study reports indicating that Ethnopharmacology is a young science that has a great capacity for development and surely substantial therapeutic proposals will emerge from pharmacological studies.
