The clinical significance of soluble E-cadherin in central nervous system leukemia

2010
Objective To study the expression of soluble E-cadherin(SE-cad) in cerebrospinal fluid and its clinical significance in the pathogenesis, disease development and prognosis of central nervous system leukemia(CNSL).Methods Enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay(ELISA) was used to determine the expression of sE-cad in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with acute leukemia. Results The concentration of sE-cad in cerebrospinal fluid was significantly higher in CNSL patients(0.86 μg/L) than that in non-CNSL patients(0.65 μg/L) or in the control group(0.47 μg/L)(P0.01).The expression levels of sE-cad decreased significantly with effective treatment in partially or completely released CNSL patients(P0.01).Conclusion The expression of E-cad in cerebrospinal fluid was closely associated with the disease processing of CNSL.The dynamic changes of the E-cad may be helpful in the diagnosis and evaluation of treatment efficacy of the disease.
