A CASE OF STRICTURE OF THE SMALL INTESTINE CAUSED BY ISCHEMIC ENTERITIS
1990
We have recently encountered a case of stricture of the small intestine probably caused by ischemic enteritis. The case was a 55-year-old man, who was admitted to our hospital because of shock sign and severe acidosis.Abdominal computed tomography showed ileus and impaired circulation in the mesentery of the small intestine, so laparotomy was performed. However, the circulation in the mesentery changed for better and the small intestine allowed to be intact. After an one-week favorable postoperative course, he started to eat but from the two weeks after laparotomy, he became to ileus again. X-ray examination of the small intestine revealed the stricture of the small intestine, and partial resection of the small intestine was performed. Preoperative abdominal angiography and postoperative X-ray examination of the specimen were within normal limits, so this case was considered to be of the mild case of nonocclusive mesenteric infarction (NOMI). The case reports of the ischemic stricture of the small intestine were rare, but within these cases this case was thought to be interesting because we could observe the progress of the ischemic stricture of the small intestine.
