Bilateral Difference in Tympanic Temperatures Reflects that in Brain Temperature

1994
Bilateral difference in tympanic temperatures was resulted from tilting the head or body to one side, stellate ganglion block, hemi-face cooling, compression of a unilateral carotid artery or angularis oculi vein, and from brain damage due to unilateral cerebral infarct or hemorrhage. It is inferred that regional or unilateral imbalance in the brain between metabolic heat production and heat loss by circulatory convection and conduction to the surroundings may result in unevenness or asymmetries in the brain temperature which are then reflected in the bilateral difference in tympanic temperatures.
