The invention relates to a preparation method of an electrode used for carbon dioxide electrochemical reduction, and belongs to the technical field of carbon dioxide recycling. The preparation method comprises following steps: carbon felt and carbon paper are subjected to treatment in the air at 200 to 600 DEG C, and are immersed in ethanol and acetone for oil removing and washing so as to obtain a substrate; the substrate is subjected to metal deposition in an electrolyte solution composed of a complexing agent, an inorganic acid, and a bismuth salt at -3.0 to -1.0V for 1 to 3000s, and is subjected to reduction in a CO2 saturated 0.05 to 0.2M NaHCO3 electrolyte at -0.5 to -3.0V at a constant electric potential for 1 to 720min; and washing and drying are carried out so as to obtain the electrode. The preparation method is simple, and is convenient to control; the structure of the electrode is controllable; and the electrode is high in specific surface area and Faradic efficiency in methanoic acid preparation via CO2 electrochemical reduction.
