The effect of different tank sizes on growth of postsmolt Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) in landbased fish farms

Growth rate data from pilot- and commercial scale plants are examined to see if the ratio between fish size and tank size has any effect. The different tank sizes vary from 8 m3 (3×3 m) to 250 m3 (9x9 m) and the fish size from 50 g to 3.5 kg. The final conclusions are yet to be drawn, but there are some indications that the growth rate in the small tanks in the pilot plant is lower than the growth rate for the fish in the large tanks in the commercial plant.
