The Effects of Team-sports learning model on the Facial Emotion Recognition and Emotional Intelligence of Middle School Students

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the Team-sports learning model on students" facial emotion recognition and emotional intelligence. For this purpose, the research subjects were divided into experimental group participating in the Team Sports Learning model and control group participating in the traditional function - based physical education class. The subjects of the study were 432 middle school 1st and 3rd grade students, the second grade was the control group which is function - oriented traditional class, and the first and third grade were the experimental group which is based on the Team-sports learning model. The data were collected and analyzed using SPSS 18.0 before and after the team sports training using Facial Emotion Recognition (FER) and emotional intelligence questionnaires. At first, the Team-sports learning model showed statistically significant effects on DEF and EL factors among END, DEF, EL, IES, and DESF factors of facial emotion recognition. Second, the students who participated in the basketball class using the Team-sports learning model were more effective than the students who participated in the function-oriented traditional basketball lesson, which are subordinate factors of emotional intelligence, emotion perception, empathy ability, Statistically significant differences were found. Based on the results of the study, the effects of Team-sports learning model on the emotional intelligence, facial emotional perception, and social skills development were discussed.
