APPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGY FOR THE PRODUCTION OF REACTIVE RICE HUSK ASH

1981
ABSTRACT The first part of this study deals with the production of reactive rice husk ash using simple and inexpensive processes applicable to developing countries. Two burning methods are suggested namely open-air burning and burning in a ferrocement incinerator. The grinding of rice husk ash is accomplished by a specifically designed rotating oil drum. Ash samples obtained from the two burning methods are analysed and tested for their physical and chemical properties. The second part involves an experimental program designed to investigate the mechanical properties of mortar and concrete using rice husk ash (RHA) as a partial substitute for cement.
