Radiography of pelvic and acetabular trauma

1996
The clinical management of pelvic and acetabular fractures requires not only treatment of the skeletal trauma but also may involve intervention to reduce complications arising from haemodynamic instability. The radiographic assessment of fractures of the pelvic ring and acetabulum requires the radiographer to have an understanding of the anatomy of the region and presents the challenge of being able to clearly demonstrate the anatomy under difficult circumstances and within a limited timeframe. Whilst CT is the examination of choice, the facility may not be readily available. Plain film radiography using standard and supplementary views can provide information vital to the planning of any surgical intervention or treatment option. (author abstract)
