Flaw Detection of Composite Materials by the Stress Wave Factor Technique

1991
A detective processing method for major isolated flaws in composite materials is investigated. To this end, favorable signal processing intervals are proposed based on consideration of a simple ultrasonic propagation ray path model in the materials. Experimental results show that interior flaws can be effectively detected by the stress wave factor technique using the signal energy and/or peak-amplitude-time parameters in the appropriate time interval.
