Atividade antimicrobiana in vitro de uma suspensão de própolis frente ao Enterococcus faecalis

2011
Objective: Evaluate, in vitro, the antimicrobial activity of propolis suspension 5% and 10% against Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 29212). Methods: The agar diffusion test and the disc method were used for the following substances: propolis dry extract at 5% (n=19) and 10% (n=19), chlorhexidine (n=19 positive control) and propylene glycol (n=19 negative control). The halos inhibition were measured after 24 hours. Results: Statistically significant difference were observed through the Kruskal Walis test (P<0,001). The chlorhexidine group showed inhibition halos of bacterial growth with average of 6,631mm, while propolis at 5% and 10% and the propylene glycol didn’t develop halos. Conclusion: The propolis extract suspension at 5% and 10% in propylene glycol didn’t presented antimicrobial activity in vitro, against Enterococcus faecalis.
