ANALYSIS OF SELF-CARE OF STOMIZED PEOPLE IN A MUNICIPALITY OF A MIDWESTERN CITY OF MINAS GERAIS ANÁLISIS DE AUTO-CUIDADO DE LAS PERSONAS ESTOMIZADAS EN UN MUNICIPIO DEL MEDIO OESTE DE MINAS

The objective of this study was to analyze self-care performed by colostomy people enrolled in the Program of Attention of the ostomy in Divinopolis-MG. By a qualitative and cross study, 25 people were selected using inclusion criteria: adults colostomists, lucid and directors of their own care. The sample was closed on the 11th respondent due to data saturation, being suspended the entry of new participants. The house hold survey was conducted in the period between February and March of 2012, using a semistructured questionnaire that addressed the socioeconomic status, underlying disease of the stoma, care and their perception of the stoma, guidance and psychosocial factors that can hinder the self-care. The responses, after transcribed, were analyzed using the technique of content analysis. The results showed that respondents were colostomists due to cancers of the colon and rectum, had difficulty attending public places due to lack of infrastructure to ostomy patients and the risks caused by the exchange and its effluent. They do not feel left out in spite of difficulties due to sexual intercourse noting that family and health professionals play an important role in the process of rehabilitation and reintegration of the individual to society.
