A trajectory-based approach to improve delivery in drive-thru Internet scenarios

2013
In this paper, we propose an architecture for hybrid drive-thru Internet scenarios which combine wired and wireless networks. This architecture handles user mobility inside vehicles in intermittently-connected wireless networks by extending the utilization of delay-tolerant networks to the wired infrastructure. A routing protocol that combines static with epidemic routing is proposed to avoid epidemic message forwarding in the wired infrastructure and, at the same, to maintain communications in the wireless network. We also propose a trajectory-based mechanism to further avoid message replication in the wired infrastructure. Experimental results show that the proposed mechanism can avoid message replication in the wired and wireless networks and still be transparent for users' applications even with access point changes.
