Behaviorally Induced Synaptic Tagging

2017
Behaviorally induced synaptic tagging and capture has now been studied in detail by several laboratories. The data strongly suggest that it is an important variable that plays a major role in the interaction of behaviors, even some apparently unrelated. In daily life memories are made and retrieved continuously in an intertwined fashion. Since synaptic tagging and capture results from LTP and/or LTD in hippocampus, and the making of memories relies crucially on both hippocampal LTP and LTD, it is likely that synaptic tagging-and-capture plays a key role in memory consolidation and organization.
