Patellofemoral imaging and analysis

2019
Abstract Imaging of the patellofemoral joint (PFJ) is used to evaluate injuries, variations in anatomy, and relationships between osseous and soft tissue structures within the PFJ. A robust analysis and interpretation of patellofemoral imaging lays the foundation for a diagnosis, while specific radiographic findings and measurements, such as the length of tibia tubercle-trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance, can shape the treatment plan. Imaging of the patellofemoral joint should be used in the context of patient's symptoms and exam, but can be used to provide insight regarding present pathology, further plan treatment options, and guide surgical approach. This chapter reviews relevant imaging studies utilized in the work-up and treatment of patients with patellofemoral disorders.
