Clinical study on impact of Chlamydia pneumoniae infections on pathogenesis of coronary heart disease

2013
OBJECTIVE To investigate the role of Chlamydia pneumoniae(Cpn) infections in the pathogenesis of coronary heart disease(CHD) and to explore its clinical significance so as to reduce the incidence of Cpn infections.METHODS A total of 128 patients with CHD,who were treated in the cardiology department from Jun 2010 to Jun 2012,were enrolled in this study and were divided into the Cpn infection group(n=104) and the non-Cpn infection group(n=24),at the same time,80 healthy people were taken as controls, then the serum IgG and IgM levels of Cpn were measured by ELISA.RESULTS Of totally 120 cases of CHD patients, the Cpn infections were detected in 104 case with the positive rate of 81.3%;in 80 healthy persons,37 cases were infected with Cpn with positive rate of 46.3%,the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P0.05).The incidence rate of myocardial infarction or more than double-vessel lesion was significantly higher in the Cpn infection group than in the non-Cpn infection group(P0.05);however,the incidence rate of stable angina pectoris or single-vessel lesion was significantly lower in the Cpn infection group than in the non-Cpn infection group(P0.05).CONCLUSION The incidence of Cpn infections is high in the CHD patients, and the Cpn infections may be involved in the occurrence and development of the CHD.
