İslam ve Batı İlişkilerine Bir Neşter: Medeniyetler Çatışması’ndan İslamofobi’ye Açılan Yol

2020
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the effort of the West to create a new “other” itself brought Islam and the Western world back. One of the most important developments contributing to this has been the 'Clash of Civilizations' thesis. This thesis, written by Harvard University Professor Samuel Huntigton, was used as one of the most basic tools that justified the conflict between Islam and the West. According to this theory, the conflicts and struggles that will take place in the international arena or in the new world system after the Cold War will arise from ideological, not economic and cultural reasons. Islam and Western civilization will be at the center of the conflict. This thesis, which has been brought forward, has made a great impact worldwide and has caused intense controversy. So much so, while discussing theory, research has been shaped in the USA and European countries in the axis of discrimination and intolerance; It reveals that the phenomenon called Islamophobia against Muslims is on the rise. In this context, the relationship between the rising Islamophobia and the Clash of Civilizations thesis will be examined in our study.
