Basics of Trauma Management Abdominal Trauma

One of the biggest challenges for any general surgeon is the management of abdominal trauma, as it represents a variety of possible injuries, which require the combination of surgical excellence and thoughtful management. The management of abdominal trauma has evolved significantly over time, and the goal of this chapter is to discuss the main elements of abdominal trauma, placing emphasis on dealing with mass casualties and disasters, which are increasingly becoming part of civilian surgery. Special consideration will be given to the more vulnerable parts of the population, including elderly, pregnant women, and pediatric trauma. Overall, the goal is to stress the importance of the coordinated care based on algorithms, in order to provide the best possible care to our patients.
