On Two Traditions of Technological Philosophy

2007
This paper discusses the origin of the division of the two traditions of technological philosophy. The author points out that the division of technological philosophy into the tradition of engineering and the tradition of humanism from the perspective of essentialism can be traced back to the conflicting ideas of scientism and humanism. But there exists a misunderstanding about this that needs to be corrected, that is,the technological philosophy in engineering is related only to the spirit of science, while the spirit of humanism is enjoyed by technological philosophy of humanism alone. It is worth mentioning that nowadays the engineering tradition and the humanist tradition tend to be synthesized. The author stresses that in the studies of technological philosophy fewer labels should be used, and our attention should be directed more to the research problems instead.
