Continuous Monitoring of Dyehouse Liquors

2008
The paper discusses the concept of continuous extraction of liquids from a group of dyeing or similar machines, its transport through narrow-bore tubing to a central point to facilitate measurement, and the presentation of appropriate parameters governing processing conditions. This approach facilitates the installation of fairly sophisticated instrumentation to measure the parameters (e.g. pH, conductivity or absorbance) from each processing machine in turn; the data are scanned and recorded and the user can read and/or automatically correct the condition in any selected machine: pH-monitoring applications in three different dyeing and bleaching works are described. Reference is made to its applicability to on-line continuous processing and extension to automatic control, and its potentialities in relation to the control of dyebath exhaustion are indicated.
