Post-independence relations between Angola and Namibia were established immediately after the proclamation of Namibia's independence, with Angola being the first country to recognize and establish formal diplomatic relations with Namibia on 18 September 1990. In this article we intend to describe the establishment of relations of institutional cooperation between Angola and Namibia, in the post-independence period, in the various sectors of defence. These cooperative relations will be analysed within the legal framework of the Republic of Angola and also of the Republic of Namibia on the subject of defence. It seeks to understand the combined contributions of both States, in the various sectors of defence, for the maintenance and preservation of regional peace and security. Likewise, it seeks to analyse the role of the Angola-Namibia Joint Defence and Security Commission in the pre-conflict period, in order to understand the factors that lead Angola and Namibia to important strategic partners.
