Studies have been carried out on complexes of iron-containing two tetrachloro- 1,2-benzoquinone ligands bonded with the metal in either the semiquinonate (Cl 4 SQ), catecholate (Cl 4 Cat), or partially protonated catecholate (HCl 4 Cat) forms. The mixed-charge ligand complex Fe(bpy)(Cl 4 SQ)(Cl 4 Cat) has been prepared by the addition of 2,2'-bipyridine to Fe(Cl 4 SQ) 3
