Heterocarboxylates of unsymmetrical tin(lV) aluminium(III)-Il-oxoisopropoxyacetate and unsymmetrical tin(lV) aluminium(III)­ Il-oxoisopropoxide

(where n= I or 2). derived from heterocarboxylic acids viz. indole3-carboxylic acid. indole-3-propionic acid and indolc-3-blltyric acids have been synthesized by the reaction of unsymmetrical ti n(l V) aillminium( III Hl-Oxoisopropoxyacctatc and lInsy mmetri­ cal tin(lV) alllminillm(lIIHl-oxoisopropoxidc respectively. The complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses and IR and NMR (IH, Dc. 27 AI , 119Sn) spectra. Monocarboxylic acid complexes of metals continue to provide interesting new types of coordination compounds because of the ability of carboxylate ions to adopt various coordination modes 1.2. Interest in 3indole carboxylic acids, 2- and 3-thiophene carboxylic acids derivatives of unsymmetrical bimetallic Sn(lV), AI(III)-.u -oxoisopropoxide arises from the use of 3-indole acetic acid and 3-indole butyric acid as anticancer and antitumor agents'. It has been reported that the biological activity of these acids is enhanced by binding with metals4. Several tris(2-methyl-2phenyl propyl) tin carboxylates containing germanium have been described recently possessing tetrahedral geometry based on X-ray diffraction study. The bioassay results have shown that some of the compounds have good acaricidal activi ty 5. The various diorganotin carboxylate compounds of oxalates, malonates, maleate, cyclobutane dicarboxylates, cyclohexane carboxylate and pivalade have been reported recently possessing cytotoxic activities against HeLa, Hep-2, RD, Lxs and P-388 cell lines. The activities are comparable to the reference standards, viz., cisplatin, carboplatin and oxalplatin 6 . Literature also shows some new tin gerinyl carboxylates which are expected to have good biological activities. Spectroscopic studies revealed that the compounds of this type possess a tetrahedral geometry 7. Various dicarboxylates viz., bis(tribenzyltin) dicarboxylates, were found to possess good fungicidal activities 8. A few isooxaxolyl tin carboxylates have been reported to possess high inhibitory potency in vitro against the enzymes acetylcholinesterase'!. Besides, some diorganotin dicarboxylates compounds are widely used as homogenous catalysts for polyurethane and RTV silicone polymerizations and for transesterification reactions in the industries 10.11.
