Method and apparatus for measuring characteristic of multi-phase fluid

PURPOSE: To determine the amount of each liquid, by measuring a value of an inherent characteristic factor proper to each fluid including at least two liquids by at least tow microwave bundles of different frequencies. CONSTITUTION: A characteristic of a fluid including at least two liquids having an inherent characteristic factor to microwaves of a predetermined frequency is measured. A slim rectangular reinforced sleeve 1 of the apparatus is formed of a material which passes microwaves at a cross section vertical to a flow and is resistant to internal and external different pressures. The sleeve 1 is reinforced by ribs 15 disposed via a fixed interval in the whole periphery. According to the method, a value of the inherent characteristic factor of each fluid is measured by at least two microwave bundles of different frequencies. A transmitter, a detector therefor are arranged along the sleeve 1 between the ribs 15. Other elements (an amplifier, an analyzer, a comparator) are set in a sealed caisson which can be set also in the sea. COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO
