The influence of human-animal interactions on cattle welfare

2011
The aim of this paper is to present the effect of human-animal interactions on cattle behavior. Farm animal come in contact with the stock persons during transportation, when are treated for different diseases and during different operations that take place in farms. Several studies have demonstrated that stockpersons' behavior influences animal behavior. Animals receiving positive contact with the stockperson are less fearful of people and are easier to handle during farm practices such as leading by a halter, weighing, or carrying. Understanding perception of dairy cows to common human contact such as stroking is important for improving the human-animal relationship, animal welfare, and production.
