An electron-microscope study of the damaged surface of mullite corundum ceramic

An electron-microscope study of the damaged surface of mullitecorundum materials synthesized from pure oxides has been carried out. It was observed that in the case of compositions containing 10–25 wt.% of SiO2, the destruction occurs through the glass phase despite the very small concentration of the latter (≤ 5 wt.%).
