Novel Approach for 1-m Positional Accuracy in Multipath Environments

2013
In the field of intelligent transportation systems (ITS), global positioning system (GPS) receivers are often used in multipath environments that are densely populated by cars and buildings. To mitigate multipath propagation. the authors have developed an improved multipath mitigation technique (IMMT ) that can outperform existing multipath mitigation techniques. The authors experimental results show that the probability of achieving positional accuracy within 1 m or less reaches 99.5 % when the IMMT is used with differential corrections in a multipath environment . The IMMT can be applied to any grade of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver. By adding observations from more GNSS satellites, IMMT offers the prospect of realizing 1-m positional accuracy.
