A Unit Process Building for Chemical Engineering Research

BY COMBINING the best features of two outstanding pilot plant installations and adding the experience-tempered suggestions of their own engineering staff, the Research Laboratories of General Mills, Inc., have developed a unit chemical process building unique in its flexibility. Designed in 1945, the structure was completed in June 1947, providing 23,000 square feet of additional floor space for General Mills' chemical engineering research program. For many years, General Mills has been the world's largest miller, producing 1 5% of this country's and 3% of the world's daily supply of bread flour. More recently, it has also become the most diversified milling company in the world, with interests ranging from new grocery specialties to chemical and mechanical products.
