Synthesis of the First Dihydroxyl Adduct of Gd@C82

A new metallofullerene derivative, dihydroxy endohedral Gd metallofullerene, Gd@C 8 2 (OH) 2 has been synthesized by a reaction of Gd@C 8 2 with H 2 O 2 , which is confirmed by matrix-assisted laser-desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).
