Acanthocytosis and acute leukaemia

In patients with myelodysplasia, some degree of poikilocytosis and anisocytosis is to be expected. There is, however, no recorded association between acanthocytosis and either myelodysplasia or acute leukaemia (Medline Search 1966-1989). We report here a patient who developed acanthocytosis at least 6 years before the development of acute myeloid leukaemia
