Prognosis of 34 Cases with Brain Metastasis from Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer:A Retrospective Study

2009
Objective: To review the outcomes of 34 patients with brain metastasis from non-small cell lung carcinoma(NSCLC),and to investigate the related factors which would impact on the prognosis of NSCLC.Methods: From Apr 1994 to Nov 2005,34 patients with brain metastasis from NSCLC accepted encephalic irradiation or combined with other therapies(such as neurosurgery, chemotherapy, etc). Results: The overall median survival time was 17 months(ranged 4-88 months),and the median survival time after brain metastases was five months(ranged 1-33 months). Conclusion: The factors such as treatment methods for brain metastases had statistical effect on the survival rate, and the differents ways of irradiation for brain metastases also may have some influences on the outcome. So the NSCLC with brain metastases should be treated in combined ways differently according to different cases.
