Humor in Science

1996
Science is a serious business. Our lives, safety, and welfare depend on the applications of science. Bridges would fall, engines would failand medicine would still be using leeches were it not for science. Of course, physicians still are using leeches, bridges do fall, and engines do fail-but not very often. Humor and science are not antipodes. If humor is the art of the unexpected or incongruous, science is the celebration of the novel and unexpected. Therefore, my title, "Humor in Science," is not oxymoronic.
