[Evaluation of an estrogen-progestagen combination in reduced doses with contraceptive purpose].

1978
The article presents the results obtained on 20 patients treated with lower than usual doses of norgestrel and ethinyl estradiol. Patients were between 18-41 most were married with children and 80% had never used contraception. A complete gynecological examination was done before starting administration of oral contraceptives (OCs) including cytological pathological and hormonal studies. There were no pregnancies no edemas and no modification of blood pressure. Side effects were very minor and included nausea mastodynia and occasional spotting. There was no modification of the menstrual cycle and dysmenorrhea disappeared in 30% of cases. Colpocytogram and endometrial biopsies were normal. These results which coincide with others presented by different authors show that reduced doses of estropregestational agents can have good therapeutic effect while lowering the incidence of serious side effects.
